At Basic Movement, we help you feel better, move better, and live with confidence.

We’ll give you the tools to understand your body, stay active, and take control of your own health — with support and guidance every step of the way.

Our programmes help prevent and manage long-term health conditions, reduce pain, and build real-life strength — whether you’re recovering after illness, getting back into exercise, or just want to feel more energetic.

We start with movement, then add exercise. By using methods like Anatomy in Motion, we help you improve how your body moves — making exercise safer and more effective. From there, we build functional strength that carries over into everyday life, so you can do more of the things you love with less pain and more confidence.

We’re not about quick fixes or chasing a “look” — we’re about helping you feel stronger, healthier, and more capable in the long term.

Hi, I’m Jonny, a Movement and Exercise Coach, based in Forres, Moray, dedicated to helping people live healthier, more confident lives.

 

My journey into fitness started with a BSc Honours Degree in Sports Coaching, where I discovered my passion for health and performance. I entered the fitness industry in 2010 and became a qualified personal trainer in 2018.

From the beginning, I’ve believed that fitness should be inclusive for everyone — including people with health conditions or disabilities. Too often, the industry overlooks these groups, and I wanted to change that.Along the way, I became a qualified Battle Cancer Coach and gained specialist qualifications in long-term health conditions and post-COVID recovery. These skills help me design safe, effective programmes for people managing illness, injury, or life after treatment.

In recent years, I discovered Anatomy in Motion — a method that transformed how I see exercise. I’ve completed two of their courses so far, and this shaped my “Movement First, Exercise Second” philosophy. Rather than jumping straight into workouts, I focus on restoring how your body moves, then building functional strength on top of that foundation. It’s why I call myself a Movement and Exercise coach, not just a personal trainer.

 

At Basic Movement, I offer 1-1 and 2-1 private coaching in Forres. My goal is simple: to give every client the tools, confidence, and understanding they need to improve their health for the long term.

"I ended up going to see Jonny after I had trouble with my shoulder for a couple of years. I had tried massage and physio appointments but nothing seemed to help long term. I went for the consultation first of all and within the first 5-10 minutes Jonny had found the issue. We worked a little bit on moving my pelvis and I could really feel the problem areas being stretched, something I found hard before no matter what stretches I googled! I had 3 sessions in total, one of which was the consultation and by the third session I felt a huge difference in my range of movement and barely any pains or aches which I had previously. I couldn't believe the difference a couple of sessions made to my shoulder. It's helped massively with work and with exercise (I ran a 10 mile PB pain free) so it's been great.
